Chana Dal Masala

Chana Dal has low glycemic index. It is very good for diabetic patients.


Makes/Serves: 4 to 5 servings

Ingredients:
          1cup chana dal (soaked in water for 1 hr. )
          1 finely chopped Tomato 
          1 finely chopped Onion
          2 red Chilies broken
          1tsp Ginger Garlic paste
          1/2 tsp Cumin seeds 
          1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
          1/2 tsp Chili powder 
          1/2 tsp Coriander powder
          1/2 tsp Turmeric powder 
          1 to 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
          2 tbsp Oil or ghee
          Chopped coriander leaves
          3 to 4 cups water 
          Salt as required

Method:
           In pressure cooker heat oil or ghee. Add cumin seeds and Mustard seeds, let them splutter. .
           Then add the Ginger Garlic paste and Red chili. Fry them for a minute.
           Add onion and salt cook it for about 2to 3min on medium heat.
           Now add the chopped Tomatoes, Turmeric powder, Coriander powder and Garam masala powder and fry the masala well on a low flame till the tomatoes and onion become soft and mushy.
          Now add the dal to this fried tempering mixture and  mix well.Then add 3 cups of water and pressure cook the dal for 3-4 whistles or till they are completely cooked. If the dal mixture look thick, then add some more water and stir to get a medium consistency in the dal. Simmer the dal for about 5to 8 min.
          Garnish the dal with coriander leaves. 
          Serve chana dal with rotis, rice, jeera rice.
