Mattar Paneer

Mattar paneer is a vegetarian north Indian dish consisting of peas and Paneer in a Tomato based sauce, spiced with garam masala. It is often served with rice and an Indian type of bread.



Makes/Serves:  5 Servings

Ingredients:
          200 gm  Paneer cubes
          2tsp Maida
          1tsp Black Pepper
          1 1/2cups fresh green peas (Mattar)
          1 Tomato (puree)
          1 large chopped Onion,
          1tsp Ginger-Garlic paste 
          1/2 tsp Red Chili powder
          1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
          1 tsp Coriander powder
          1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
          1/2 tsp Kasuri Methi 
          1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
          1 tsp Cream(optional)
          Salt to taste
         2 tbsp Oil (or ghee)

 Method:
          At first marinate the paneer with maida and black pepper and salt, then slightly sauté them in a pan with 1tbsp of oil on medium heat. and leave aside.
          Heat oil in a pan on medium heat, add cumin seeds and   onions and salt sauté them for about 4-5min add Ginger-Garlic paste and cook it for about another 1min.
          Now add Coriander, Turmeric, and Red Chili powder and stir it. Add 1tbsp of water and sauté them for about 1min.
          Add tomato puree and peas, cook for 5 to 8 min (or till peas get cooked) on medium heat.
           Add Kasuri Methi and Garam Masala powder.
          Reduce the heat, add the Paneer and Cream, stir it and cook them for about 5 more min. Turn off the heat.
          Serve hot with roti or naan or rice.
