Murg Saag Wala (Palak Chicken)

This is a classic North Indian Non- Vegetarian Chicken dish. Very tasty Chicken dish cooked in Spinach (palak)  gravy. This is a nutrient rich meal that is great to have as part of a healthy diet, equally good for kids and adults.




Makes/Serves:  4 to 5 servings

Ingredients:
·      1lb Chicken (cut into medium sized pieces)
·      5cups chopped Palak
·      1medium chopped Onion  
·      1medium chopped Tomato 
·      1tbsp chopped Garlic
·      1tsp Ginger paste
·      1tbsp Lemon juice
·      3 to 4 chopped Green Chilies
·      2tbsp Ghee (or olive oil)
·      1tsp Coriander powder
·      1tsp Turmeric powder
·      1tsp Cayenne Pepper (or Chili powder)
·      2tbsp Poppy seeds powder (optional)
·      1cinamom powder
·      2 Cardamom pods
·      1Bay leaf
·      Salt to taste

Method:
·      At first soak the Chicken in Salt and water solution for about 1/2hr to 1hr.
·      Then make puree of Palak and leave it aside.
·      In a karai heat the ghee in medium heat add Bay leaf, Cardamom pods, chopped Garlic sauté for few sec then add Ginger paste and sauté for few more sec it will take about1min.
·      Now add Onion, Turmeric powder and sauté for few sec and then add Coriander powder, Cayenne Pepper, Cinnamon powder and salt and sauté them. It will take about 1min.
·      Now add chicken and stir it well and add tomato and cover it with lid for about 5 min to 8 min on medium heat. Stir it in between.
·      Now add Palak puree and lemon juice and cook it for about another 10min to15min on medium heat with lid off. (if you want thin gravy add water at that time)
·      Now add poppy seeds powder.(optional)and cook for about 1min.and off the flame.
·      Serve with roti ,rice .
